1Who we are
BrainyStars is a study app for Junior High School (JHS 1โ3) learners in Ghana, for Android and Windows. It is run by Rockfund Consult ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app uses, why, and the choices you have.
Many BrainyStars users are children. We collect as little as we can, and we ask parents and guardians to help younger learners use the app.
2What we use and why
| Information | Why | Where it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| First name (optional), JHS level and class | To greet you and show the right level | Your device only |
| Quiz answers, scores, stars, progress, saved questions | To track your learning and spaced review | Your device only |
| Device ID (a code made from your phone's or PC's ID), app version, device model and system version | To check your subscription and keep each subscription on its own device | Our server |
| School ID (optional) | To link your device to your school | Our server |
| Mobile money number and network (MTN, Telecel, AirtelTigo) | Only when you pay for a subscription | Our server and our payment provider |
| Saturday Challenge: test profile (first name and school name), answers, scores and times | To mark your papers and build the leaderboards | Our server |
We do not collect your surname, date of birth, phone contacts, photos, camera, microphone or location. The app has no adverts and no tracking or analytics tools.
3The Saturday Challenge leaderboard
If you take part in the Saturday Challenge, other BrainyStars users can see your first name, your school name, your score and your time on the leaderboard. Nothing else about you is shown.
- Please use only your first name - never your full name or phone number.
- You can change your test profile in the app at any time.
- We may hide names that are rude, fake or unsafe.
4Payments
Subscriptions are paid with mobile money. Your payment is handled by our payment provider (pawaPay) and your mobile money operator, who receive your number, network and the amount so they can process the payment. We keep a record of each payment to manage your subscription. We never see or store your mobile money PIN.
5Who we share information with
We never sell your information. We only share it:
- with our payment provider and mobile money operators, to process payments;
- with your school, which can see the devices and subscriptions linked to its School ID;
- with our website host, which stores our server securely for us;
- if the law requires it.
On Android, Google Play may check for app updates. Google handles that under its own privacy policy.
6How long we keep it
- Information on your device stays until you clear the app's data or uninstall it.
- Subscription and payment records are kept while your subscription is active and afterwards for as long as needed for our accounts and the law.
- Saturday Challenge profiles and results are kept so the leaderboards stay correct, until you ask us to delete them.
7Keeping it safe
The app talks to our server only over a secure (HTTPS) connection. Subscriptions are protected with digital signatures, and access to our server is restricted to authorised staff. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.
8Your choices and rights
- See or correct your information - ask us.
- Delete your Saturday Challenge profile and results, or other information we hold - ask us.
- Clear your device data - "Reset progress" in Settings clears your quiz history and progress; uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on the device.
- Use the app without a profile - you only need one for the Saturday Challenge.
When you contact us, include the Device ID shown in the app's Settings so we can find your information. A parent or guardian can make these requests for a child.
9Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for important changes, tell you in the app or on our download page.
